Comment: Traffic has been switched from the old US 421 Milton-Madison Bridge to the new bridge, which is sitting on temporary piers. To access the new bridge – which is about 15 feet downstream of the old bridge – drivers are using the newly-constructed permanent approaches in Milton, Ky., and Madison, Ind. Toward the end of the approach, drivers use a short transition span, which takes them to the new 40-foot-wide bridge. The new span has a 15-ton weight limit and a 36-foot vehicle length restriction, meaning semis cannot use the bridge. Once the bridge “slide” occurs later this summer and the new bridge opens in its permanent location, semis will be able to access the bridge.
